IN THE PRESS
I worked with one of the most famous comedy teams of all time, Rowan & Martin... This book comes as close as anything I've seen to capturing the lifestyle, tribulations, and careers of two people who are dependent on each other for laughs and their livelihood.
PRODUCER OF ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN AND FOUNDER OF THE AMERICAN COMEDY AWARDS
A hilarious showbiz story with great vintage Hollywood details!
AUTHOR, ADDICTED TO AMERICANA
...this collection of “short-ish” stories are well worth taking a break from the dime-a-dozen zombie apocalypse to have some honest-to-Cthulhu fun.
I give Five Slices of Fear:
A Connoisseur’s Hoagie of Horror a perfect Star Rating - a must read for creepy creatures with a funny bone.
Josh Hickman may just be the new Patrick Dennis with THROUGH TICK & TINN, his outrageously funny faux bio which illuminates through laughter the preposterous business of fame, (mis)fortune, and the tough work of making comedy.
PACIFIC BOOK REVIEW
Josh Hickman was born in Washington, D.C. and reared in various parts of Texas. Raised on a heady combination of Three Stooges shorts, Famous Monsters of Filmland and Mad magazines, old blues music, and low-budget sci-fi and horror pictures (seemingly from the life of someone much older), tender Hickman reveled in a veritable cornucopia of limited influences.
Showing a talent for art at a young age, he attended the Booker T. Washington High School for Performing and Visual Arts where he studied drawing, painting, and sculpture. Earning a degree in film via the University of Texas at Austin’s screenwriting program, Mr. Hickman went on to work in such varying occupations as filmmaker, musician, muralist, personal chef, and private detective.
Mr. Hickman’s first comic novel Through Tick & Tinn: The True Story of The Greatest Unknown Comedy Team Ever Known prompted comedy legend and veteran Laugh-In producer George Schlatter to comment, “This book comes as close as anything I’ve ever seen to capturing the lifestyle, tribulations, and careers of two people who are dependent on each other for laughs and their livelihood.” He then satirized Hemingway, Steinbeck, and high seas treasure hunts into the human soul with his next comic novel Ambergris.
Mr. Hickman’s latest book, Five Slices of Fear: A Connoisseur’s Hoagie of Horror, turns the horror genre on its head with winks to Poe, Lovecraft, and other dealers in darkness. His upcoming comic novel, The Kinfolk: The Cult of Sex & Cheese, promises to do the same to religious cults.
Josh Hickman lives and works in Hollywood, California.
